While I thought an alien invasion where the aliens basically buy humanity out of everything is an interesting premise, the movie was juggling to many ideas that went nowhere. It had a love story that ended 10 minutes in, a litigation plot between the aliens and human characters that apparently had no real stakes to it, themes of how influencer culture affects us that's also just dropped, and the old trope of artistic vision vs. profit. I feel like having…
A solid mystery adaptation with spooky gothic aesthetics, adult drama, and a detective literally chasing ghosts. And great acting from the actors expressing their past pain in tears, panic, anger, and everything in between to give an emotional depth that I don't really see in a lot of mystery fiction.
Just seeing Michelle Yo do her thing is worth getting a ticket. Awesome!
