In many ways a complete disaster of a movie, the subject is grim, the execution often in poor taste, and the whole thing has the feeling of an off season Hammer or Amicus production. Despite the presence of bonafide movie stars Christopher Plummer and (in a glorified cameo) Donald Sutherland, the whole thing can't escape the distinct feeling of being a glorified TV movie. Two plus hours of silliness, but entertaining. The opening twenty minutes are borderline unbearable with everyone doing the dreaded "comic acting" - big gestures, mugging, exaggerated eyerolls, all very hammy and self indulgent. But it settles down after that, and a mid film turn (around the excellent Janelle Monae) makes it much more watchable. Chiefly a film for and about internet people, so don't make the same mistake I did and try and watch it with your boomer in-laws on…
