My favourite of Alex Garlands films. The final act alone is breathtaking, skin-crawling cinema. An incredible insight into grief and the internal metamorphosis this has on our character and emotional makeup. Science-fiction does not get much better than Annihilation.

As the credits rolled on The Zone of Interest I was left stunned, but it wasn’t until on my walk home that this really hit like a ton of bricks. Glazer tells such an unemotionally, detached story with a clinical eye that completely avoids showing the viewer any of the horrors that take place within Auschwitz. These are ever present though, hidden behind a wall that sits adjacent to the SS commandants family from whose perspective the narrative is told.…
