The Substance 2024
Holy moly this was a WILD ride. The slow silent burn kept me intrigued and then when things started really popping off I was terrified and fascinated. Incredible themes and so uncomfortable to watch. The practical effects really blew me away. Rooting for Demi Moore this year for sure!

Probably the best movie I saw in 2023 tbh. I thought it was excellent. It’s left me with a similar haze that I had after seeing Barbie… as in, there are people who get this movie and there are people who think they got it but did not fully.
Some weird laughter (some guys to my left who thought a particularly abusive scene was… hilarious?) distracted me in my theatre. But, to be fair, there were genuinely funny bits laced…

So so so grateful the movie lived up to my expectations and despite the exhausting marketing campaign & meme-ification of it all, this was a great cast and beautifully made movie.
I was impressed by Ariana Grande and laughed genuinely out loud at her version of Glinda. Cynthia Erivo is an absolute star - singing live while doing her own stunts earns her an Oscar nomination without a doubt.
The Easter eggs and little additional moments included throughout the movie made me giddy and I truly can’t wait for part 2!
