“This is one strange fucking night”

The fictional retelling of four historical figures spending the night together under unusual circumstances. Regina King definitely set up beautiful shots and tense moments, but I wish there were stronger ties between the four characters. The depiction of the hangout seemed very random and at times one-dimensional and stagnant. After learning that this movie was based on a play, it definitely informed the pace and explains why most of the movie took place in a single location.

As a fan of Bong Joon Ho, I was not going to miss out on Mickey 17. A big plus in the experience was being able to watch it in IMAX. Complete and sheer perfection. Fernanda Torres breathed life into the character of Eunice, the consummate protector, mother, and doting wife. I went into the theater not knowing a single thing about this movie and I’m walking away in total awe of the impeccable storytelling that was achieved. The cinematography evoked nostalgia and the music accompanied this story so well. They had the audience in this tense and intimate roller coaster ride, anticipating the drop and still leaving us in shock…

Theo James…the man that you are.

Theo aside, I was really and pleasantly surprised by the comedy in The Monkey!! The writers must’ve had a grand ole time writing this script because it had the audience in the theater literally laughing out loud every few minutes. Similar to Longlegs, I walked away wishing I understood the “magic” behind the actual monkey, but all in all I enjoyed the ride.
