Easily the worst movie of the franchise, which doesn’t mean it’s outright terrible but it’s definitely doesn’t meet the standard set by the first three. For starters, those movies still look good to this day because of the they did a good job incorporating CGI characters into practical sets. This latest installment has that over-animated Marvel style that I think we will someday look back on like we do the Star Wars prequels. Also, the previous three films all had…
Dense with jokes that are simultaneously dry and absurdist. A dark horse candidate for Buscemi's career best, bolstered by near-perfect performances up and down the cast from supporting to even one-line roles. The cinematography doesn't take many risks, but instead does a good job of getting the little things right and letting the acting and writing carry the film. Even as a Leftist, it's an entertaining enough piece of media that I can ignore the Western anti-Communist cliches and exaggerations and just enjoy a really funny movie.
Disappointing after Vol 1 and 2. Dialogue ranges from cheesy to Ill-fitting. Lots of characters act without rationalized motivations, or even in some cases counter to them. Immersion breaking disregard for some laws of physics even in a movie about a tree man, an anthropomorphic raccoon, and a woman made of nanoparticles. Even the usual polish of beautiful cinematography isn’t up to par with some bad green screen shots and jarring changes to the aspect ratio. Capped off by an ending where each of the character takes turns blurting out personality arcs that were not showcased throughout the film before breaking into a dance party.
