Pure cinema bliss. Movie-heads will agree, the universe built within On Cinema is one of the best in comedy and movie-reviewing history. From the highest highs, to the lowest lows, the 10th Annual On Cinema Oscar Special delivers a gradient of emotion unseen in other Oscar Specials, plus, incredible movie expertise of the master, Gregg Turkington.
I have a hard time describing why I like this movie as much as I do. I think it has something to do with really appreciating work where the director sets out to do whatever the hell they want and succeeds. It's goofy, it's weird, it's hard to believe things are happening when they are, it's funny, it's stylish as hell.
You may not agree with my rating, and I don't blame you if you don't. Objectively, it might not be a five-star movie, but it gave me five stars of enjoyment, and I think that counts for something.
It feels like the director said "I don't care how much it costs, I don't care if it doesn't necessarily make sense, but I want to make every scene of this movie to be cool as hell." and they did it so incredibly successfully. A three hour movie where every moment was entertaining, however silly, however over the top. So fun. What an action film should be.
