Watched the 10th anniversary IMAX rerelease and it really elevated this film to me to near masterpiece status. I still think the third act has some problems but man seeing the docking scene and black hole event horizon scene in IMAX was a near religious experience for me. Saw this in a pretty packed theater which just shows the following this film has by the general public. When Cooper is watching the 20 year old recordings of his kids I could hear people crying around me. That’s the power of cinema baby.

Slow, meditative, and most of all beautiful. A film made by a legendary filmmaker who’s an absolute master of his craft. With both this film and Silence, Scorsese has proven to have the most relevance and longevity of his peers whilst still making masterpieces in his 70s. The last act, and the final shot are going to be bouncing around in my head for the best few weeks.

Well acted, superbly shot and directed, and a love story so beautiful that it was able to actually break through my cynical exterior and get me to tear up in a couple scenes. Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga have dynamite chemistry and they both fully disappear into their respective roles. Cooper also does a stellar job in his directorial debut. The soundtrack is fantastic too; filled with songs that I’ll probably be humming for weeks. Is the story a little predictable in spots? Yes but the film is so well made that I’m willing to overlook it.
