Certainly a great caricature of Nicolas Cage that he leans into really well. The neurotic nature of this film is amusing and makes for an incredibly fun movie to watch. Nic Cage is back…not that he ever left.
This movie was far more developed than I thought it would be. A great original story and performance by Nicolas Cage—his finest in years. The supporting cast was excellent as well. The dialogue was often subdued but important. I hoped there would be a little more cooking or food centric scenes since Cage’s character is supposedly one of the world’s best forgotten/revered chefs. The movie plods along, but at a pace that’s appropriate and respectful of the story it tells. This movie isn’t just about a stolen truffle pig. It teaches us about absence in life and the toll it can take on all of us.
A great showcase for Gyllenhaal, but the story really isn’t there. The solo acting performance can only go so far
