    So this one was special, and not the Special Edition, I mean. I was given the rarest of opportunities from the Academy to see an original 70mm Academy print of Star Wars struck in 1981. The original version. Scratches and all. No Special Edition touch-ups. I’ve only ever seen this version on the horrible pan-and-scan VHS release which I own, but I’ve never seen the movie in a theater, neither version.

    What’s most charming about this is how it has fun with the engaging trope of seeing a likeable hero getting their ass kicked, yet always finding a way to get back up no matter what.

    A decent Die Hard tribute. And a pretty good date movie. Extra points for the R.E.M. and The Darkness needle drops, plus the subtle homage to Max Payne.

    What I was worried about the idea of Netflix releasing this movie on its platform instead of theaters, back when it was a rumor, was that the experience of watching it would change drastically. Then again, I wouldn’t have known, so what the hell.
