An oft-intense yet heartwarming survival story with not a single word spoken that nonetheless manages to communicate so much and so vividly, Flow is a truly special kind of film that makes me remember why I fell in love with cinema — and the sheer, raw power of what it can do — in the first place, aided by spellbindingly gorgeous animation and some of the best and most evocative sound design of any film from last year.

Teasing its audience with the prospect of something fresh and new and instead giving them a lazy and shallow product that we've seen time and time again, The Strangers is a horror film that doesn't at all deserve the befuddling praise it has gotten over the past decade, with horrendous pacing, annoying jump scares, underdeveloped characters who make the stupidest decisions you can think of, and wooden performances.

NOTE (05/06/2022): This was my initial reaction back when I saw it in March of 2016. My feelings on this film have changed significantly since then.
