    Baseball is fine as a game, and I even tend to like films about off-field antics of teams. Bull Durham, however, did not engage me, even with the leads being at the peaks of their powers. Partly, I don’t relate to these people who view baseball as something larger than a game, to them it’s some sort of religion, part Americana, part tribalism.

    But also, I can’t get a read on aspects of these characters, particularly Annie. Like, Tom Robbin…

    Me, after the last chapter:
    “What did we learn, Palmer?” “I don’t know, sir.”

    13 hours of improvised cinema, incorporating themes of theater rehearsal, espionage pulp, Balzac, searching for meaning in life, and capital-A Artistry. Severely falls short, though, in how clearly it’s improvised - events come and go with little fanfare or consequence as though someone else failed to go “yes, and.” Also not sure I should wonder for at least eight hours what this conspiracy of Thirteen could…

    In his introduction, Glenn Danzig railed against horror movies with "ten minutes of dialogue, but nothing happens." So he removed the dialogue, still making sure that nothing happens.

    Mostly well lit.... but barely edited. Or written.
