Personally, this is officially tied for third best movie done by Illumination with Secret Life of Pets. Take that information as you will.

This movie tries to come off as smart by placing an interesting trolley problem decision. But, instead, its inane melodrama and dour pacing not only made it a slog to go through, it also makes it into a preachy story with less substance than wit.

A pale and disgraceful imitation of what Battle Royale and its predecessors like Kaiji were trying to be. The ending of the first season as well is so abhorrently awful it ruins any want or need to continue watching this series. I have rarely been pissed at such a series, but I have not felt frustration as intensely as for this series in a long time. Heck even Alice in Borderland while formulaic, had more merits than this. An overrated schlockfest that strays on the line between being torture porn and self-indulgent pseudointellectual nonsense.
