Telling the story of an immigrant through a childhood love story was perfectly subtle. The feeling of being split into 2 different people after leaving your country was just so accurate. - Loved how it reflected such a relevant subject for today's conflicts. How gender is portrayed in the film is beautifully accurate. It shows one of the most mentioned issues with toxic masculinity where men's inability to deal with emotions takes the characters to the extremes, and the initial competitive nature between women and their desired to feel seen and "chosen" to come to this island.
