On the one hand, you could call Panos ambitious for trying to mash up an arthouse acid trip with a pastiche of 80's revenge cinema, but on the other hand you could argue that he didn't have the confidence to try focusing on a consistent style and instead tried to please everyone. Maybe it's supposed to be less about the content of the film and more about the way it makes you feel, but at every turn I felt interrupted…

Holy shit they really soft balled in that iPod reference for the last dialogue scene. I think it was an interesting way to structure a film and I really love the different shooting formats for the different eras, plus the performances were pretty top notch. I feel like Sorkin’s dialogue was what it always is—snappy, fun, etc—but I feel like any time technical stuff came up it felt a little ham-fisted. Not a bad film by any stretch... Just not great.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house at the very end. What a triumph. Found a few of the scenes a little harsh for the intended audience (“I’m gonna bury you deep underground.”) but hey, maybe it’s a British thing? Seriously tho, deserves every accolade it gets. Great performances; beautiful imagery; genuinely funny; and heartfelt—but not saccharine—writing.

It’s an accessible, fun, deep, thoughtful, and beautiful film that is so emblematic of the best that Pixar has to offer. I can’t honestly see watching this film and thinking it was anything other than a masterpiece.
