Subtle like a wrecking ball, but I didn’t find much issue with that. Ruffalo wraps both members of our current dictatorial duo into a single character, and Bong Joon Ho makes it explicitly clear what he’d like to see happen to them. Can’t say I don’t respect such blatant authorial intent.
Beneath that thick layer of satirization, this movie has a wonderfully romantic thread and touches on some interesting bits of identity and consciousness (though I would’ve loved to see us dive deeper in here).
