  Saint Omer is a some point a modern-day “Beloved” exploring the generational trauma of Black women, a collective experience regardless of their nationality. The film asks questions that moral codes, religion, philosophy and even the law cannot answer. To watch this film you have to leave behind your traditional value systems. French legal dramas are on another level, offering a deep, nuanced exploration of the complex human experience. The powerful monologue at the end leaves a lasting impact, and what a way to end this movie with a Nina Simone song.
