Always for Pleasure 1978
By viewing the vibrant and distinctive local culture of New Orleans, one can identify the losses inherent in an increasingly digitized, international, and homogenized culture. Simultaneously, I feel a desire to investigate my local community more.
I wonder if Mardi Gras is still like that in New Orleans. I imagine that the people who go are not present participants in the same way… everybody is inhibited by the surveillance of others or fixated on capturing the spectacle and posting it online. If not that, then there is the potential self-surveillance that accompanies interaction with online “discourses”.Translated from by -
