One night only IMAX screening.
No change in how I feel about this deeply flawed masterpiece. Taking control of your impulses and desires, letting it control you, realizing it was nothing you had wished for, and/or embracing and shattering them head on —hopefully to find yourself in a new state of being. Divinely shallow, trippy, and sentimental in the right places, despite narrative clunkiness. A perfect capsule of its time that doesn’t feel dated or out of touch.
A slick, yet messy spy thriller stuffed with deception, wit, and unconditional love. Maybe a bit predictable and the writing can get convenient for the plot, but the dialogue is sharp enough to bounce you in different directions without pause. Shorter movies that are compact, engaging, and tie up loose ends are still alive.
Going into this I thought the brutal killings would rub me the wrong way, but it’s just the film’s ideologies that just come off way too cynical and pretentious. Glad people are enjoying this though; I appreciate it, but it’s not for me.
