I feel bad for writing off Tony Scott for so long. His work with Denzel especially is just some of the most efficient and solid action films there are. Working class heroes saving the day despite dipshit bourgeois execs. And an engaging concept fully realized in 90 minutes? Who alive can even accomplish that now.

One of the more consistent Zulawski films. It doesn’t really drag as much in the second half as some of his others. I think this was his first film? So, fun to see him bursting out the gate with that cocaine Tarkovsky energy.

A lot of fun, but man, a tad trying at two hours. Some great lines from Peter Fonda, doing his best Puma Man in the platonic ideal of an American actor cashing in on a weird Japanese flick with the promise it’ll never be seen back home. The whole thing feels like a deranged commercial for the liquor with gold flakes his character is obsessed with.
