After a clunky start, it starts finding its way. Ellen Burstyn is always a calm presence and her growth in healing herself and then others is fully believable. A young Sam Shepard is stupid and sexy - a hard combination to play. His downfall is gradual and believable.
However, Burstyn's costumes, relevant and acceptable in the late 70s, thanks to the upsurge in interest in colonial times (thanks to the American Bicentennial) are just awful, matronly and aging. Think Little House on the Prairie with mini florals and pinafores. Shepard got off lightly with jeans and a black t-shirt!

Saltburn 2023
Love a film set in the English summer with an outsider out of place and looking in.
This is a much more recent historical setting, which shows things haven't changed that much since the Bright Young Things of the 20s. Shades of Brideshead revisited and Love in a Cold Climate, but also the Talented Mr Ripley.
Is it clever? I'm not sure about that.
Is it beautifully made? Yes.
Disturbing? Definitely.Translated from by
