I really like the movie, the storytelling, the acting, and the set design. I just can’t get over how much of a product of its time this movie is. The further we get away from the historical context of 1950s LA Chinatown, or even 1970s LA Chinatown, really does not aid this movie in its aging.
It sure would help if they showed Chinatown at any point in the movie besides the end. And I get it it’s supposed to…
A solidly fine movie which I appreciate being hopeful, unlike the usual depressing. I didn’t like spacer, I already have to deal with normal Trump every day, I watch movies to escape his nonsense. Plus, it didn’t feel like the story was supposed to be topical, but a bit more main stay. There were some characters in moments that also didn’t make sense, but it’s fine bc I felt happy after the end 😊

I’ve watched this movie I think 3 times since my last review, it really is that good.
The setting is cyberpunk with an indescribable quality that lends it to being the comparison standard rather than being compared to. I love that the dialogue treats you like a person. I can’t think of a line that is nonsensical or doesn’t directly reflect the themes of the movie.
Fuck man the animation is *that* good. Its not just the punchy action scenes, unmatched in intensity and stark imagery, it’s the quiet moments in between – solemn shots of the city, even just two characters talking.
Have you ever heard a conversation and you had been both sides of it?
I’ve been Nora and I’ve been Arthur and I’ve been Hae Song with different people at different times (past lives lol) and I’ve had these exact conversations and I know how they go and I remember what I said and what I should have said.
