Feels like a locked Oscar for Cate Blanchett as she acts the shit out of this character piece. A detailed depiction of a fall from grace. It is patient, with a pace that may seem slow but always propels us forwards. The interior locations and shots; the use of sound as a dripping guilt ridden torture; the powerful orchestral performances; all add mood and environment.

The ending made me think of MEMORIA, but maybe that's just a Cate/Tilda thing in my mind.

Intoxicating, heartbreaking, desperate and fun. Drink it up.

First half was a really fun ride and there was a proper funny moment that got big laughs in the audience (the wall).
Has to then work the plot out a bit and slows down, but you get more fun bits and if you're up for it and a Nicholas Cage fan, I reckon you're up for it. Could have been tweaked and maybe gone more wild but I had a good time and the right film for the right moment.

A delight of incisive, exploratory writing and scenario (fantastical and coincidence strewn to match the title) with tight performances that give you a feel of theatre. It feels like a fresh Japanese voice and the three act format offers variety, while a long-scene observational style gives depth. I was seduced, loved the array of performances, and applaud the translation.
