Inexplicably the only film in the Leprechaun series to occur on St. Patrick’s Day. It has the ideal tone for a 90’s b-movie slasher and features Clint Howard and Michael McDonald in small roles too, but it is a movie in need of a bigger body count. Warlock 2: The Armageddon is a good contemporary example of what this could be with a similarly-powered killer mutilating everyone in his path. I love how this movie works on three different levels: 1) for those who see and agree with Paul Verhoeven’s satire, 2) for those who see it as an action movie and don’t recognize the satire, and 3) for those who see Verhoeven fail in criticizing jingoism, male heroism, and parts of fascism and like it for those reasons. This is how you appeal to all audiences! I think, no matter which way you fall, it’s a bloody good time…
