I watch this movie today when communal tensions have risen over the past 10 years. To watch the destruction that babri masjid demolition caused, to now see my friends and family celebrating the ram mandir genuinely broke my heart.
To get the obvious stuff out of the way.. It is rare to have a director make movies that are relevant, impactful and original.
Mani Ratnam's camera truly is the most vibrant and expressive.
As always it tied nature with romance…

I watched this with my boyfriend in the theatres
I love how it introduced me to a very unfamiliar world of a conclave within Rome and to catholicism, and even though it was altogether different from anything in India, the ideas of prejudice and religious war were relevant to me.
