I'm breaking my hiatus from Letterboxed for this one. I am so glad I got to see it the way o got to see it. I actually bought a new stand-alone 4k Blu Ray player to ensure the proper first-time experience watching this on my big new oled. And it did not disappoint. Definitely among the top of Kurosawa's oeuvre. And while there's no shortage of old-fashioned on-the-nose messaging, there's also plenty of subtle, devastating theming. The message here is as apt and timely as ever.
Although I'm starting to think maybe that guy did not care much for women.
