This is my third time watching this movie and it's been quite a journey. The first time I didn't like it. The second time I thought it was just okay. And now, it finally clicked and I liked it a lot. The only constants have been:
    1. Gene Tierney's performance because I always thought she was brilliant as Ellen.
    2. The cinematography. This is probably one of the most gorgeous movies I've ever seen.

If you had told my teenage self from 2008 that the girl from Twilight would be nominated for an Oscar in the future and I would have voted for her, I wouldn't have believed you... but here we are!

When I tell you I was HYPNOTIZED watching this film... Loved, loved, LOVED the cinematography! One of the best I've ever seen. The acting was top-notch, in particular the performances by Robert Mitchum and Lillian Gish. I really don't understand why this film was a commercial and critical (??????) failure when it came out. I thought it was brilliant!
