This is my third time watching this movie and it's been quite a journey. The first time I didn't like it. The second time I thought it was just okay. And now, it finally clicked and I liked it a lot. The only constants have been:
1. Gene Tierney's performance because I always thought she was brilliant as Ellen.
2. The cinematography. This is probably one of the most gorgeous movies I've ever seen.

I really liked this film as a whole. And the cinematography was stunning.

The Night of the Hunter 1955
When I tell you I was HYPNOTIZED watching this film... Loved, loved, LOVED the cinematography! One of the best I've ever seen. The acting was top-notch, in particular the performances by Robert Mitchum and Lillian Gish. I really don't understand why this film was a commercial and critical (??????) failure when it came out. I thought it was brilliant!
