I genuinely do not understand why this film is rated so highly.
Yes, the landscapes and the cinematography are beautiful. Yes, the history of Aborigines in Australia is one that needs to be portrayed in film. Yes, the diversity of cast contributed to a multifaceted history.
However, it must be stated that the story and the writing were very mediocre. Characters were incredibly two-dimensional and unrealistic. There's the God-loving white samaritan who believes we are all created equal, the over-masculine,…
Great portrayal of an insane story. The total absurdity of the characters (or should I say caricatures?) when met with the dumbfounding confrontation of their accurate portrayal during the after-credits is a final blow to an already impressive cinematic experience.
Also, big compliments for Robbie. There is a staggering lack of female roles in the film industry where the female protagonist is attributed the complexity of a full human being. Instead of waiting God knows how long for being offered a complex and mature role, she took the risk of producing this film and creating it for herself.
And what a role did she create.
Toch blijft…
Cinematic storytelling in perfection. The film makes you as a viewer an intimate voyeur. On one hand it's the simple equation of good writing, good acting, good soundtrack, good camerawork, good cinematography etc. that creates this. On the other hand it is something more special. The story and its characters have a mysterious attraction. You want to be in the film and live through every moment and every feeling that the characters are going through.
Everyone who I spoke to…
