  I loved this as a teenager, as did a lot of millenial girls of my ilk. I hadn't watched it since, but I was going to Paris, Amelie popped up on Air France's in-flight entertainment system, and it felt like a sign.

  Luckily, it's still great! Not "profound" but not the shallow Tumblr-core quirkiness one might expect either.

  I felt reaaaaal uncomfortable about this one, and I should have known that going in, but I didn't read the synopsis. And once the dumpster started burning, I had to watch the fire.

  Lots of racist harassment of the perpetrators and their friends and families. Glorifies the white cops and the white (passing, at least?) family in this (seemingly) predominantly latinx neighborhood spinning a web to catch the bad brown man.   The set design, the costuming, the aesthetics, the vision....the fado. Emma: formidable.

  There was something that didn't quite click with me (okay, beyond the armpit hair thing that took me out) and keeps me from giving a full five stars, but I can't put my finger on it. Honestly...it could just be the mood I was in, a little distractable and restless?
