The Whale is an excellent and powerful film about the soul-crushing weight of the world, life, and our own selves.
Too bad the last 20ish minutes is gratuitously sentimental, though.

Babylon demonstrates that although fantastic sets/costumes, a compelling soundtrack, and consistently high shock value will definitely make a spectacle, it does not necessarily make for a moving or interesting film. While the cast of actors is great, all of the characters themselves are thoroughly one-dimensional and I cared little about them or their storylines. Fortunately, there are just enough scenes that are entertaining and/or interesting in Babylon to make the 3 hour film more or less worth it.

I’m happy to announce that RRR was just as entertaining and stylish as I hoped it would be. For those put off by a three hour run time, don’t be: the movie is very well paced and most of it flew by. I especially enjoyed the action, which felt to me like a stylistic combination of Chinese kung fu and Tarantino, which although totally unrealistic was also totally rad. The soundtrack is also rad, and not scared of taking…
