  this is one of my favourite films about subverting standards, defying the church and, of course, reshaping society by helping people through their problems one by one. there's chocolate in there also.

  i have seen this movie so many times now, and i will be honest, it's not the most brilliant thing. there's a lot of things in it that are impressive, and equally there are things in it that are not. ariana plays the role of glinda almost too well. i would actually really like to see her on a stage performance of this. cynthia is flawless, of course. things could be better but its re-watchability is outrageous.

  really and truly gripping. there's just enough there to let you know what's going on, enough to let you in on the idea of the tropes and the journey at hand, and the themes it tackles. the rest is left open, but the space it leaves isn't an empty one. the art style is gorgeous, some of the longer shot scenes are so impressive, but what really cherry tops this is the score. the music accents all the scenes that…

  interesting little piece of media from its time. tells a story that's very aware of what was going on at the time, even if it's a little rough around its edges. i could go into criticisms, but for what it is i like it, and i think that's what matters.
