Wasn’t sure what to expect from this film.  I was totally enthralled by the story from beginning to end.  This film is different, but very, very good.  It has a bit of everything; cruelty, yearning, love, acceptance, and even musical numbers!  The acting was superb, and if Zoe Saldana does not bring home the Oscar, or is at least nominated, it would be a travesty.

This documentary regarding a mentally and physically disabled man and his teacher delivers a lot of hard, emotional lessons.  Dealing with race, class and a form of teaching called facilitated communication, that some believe helps those who cannot communicate find a voice, or does it?  It is a simple, straightforward story regarding a beloved young man, his supportive family, and the teacher, who through her alone, truly believes she can access the disabled man’s true voice.  There is no push towards who is right or who is wrong, that question is left up to the viewer to decide.  I highly recommend.

I am honestly surprised at how bad this was. I was really looking forward to it. Griselda was a fascinating woman, somehow they did not convey this. The acting was subpar, the wardrobe, hair, and makeup never matched with the right decade(s). The story would be condensed for one part, then dragged on forever in others. They wanted the audience to like her, see her as the underdog, then slowly dissolve into a villain, when she was so much more…
