The action is fun. There’s some fun jokes in there. Ke Huy Quan is his usual lovable self. Ariana DeBose continues to be an extremely captivating performer.
But they really feel way too platonic for the movie’s plot insisting they’re in love.

Not exaggerating at all, this is one of the best films ever, AND probably the best animated film I have ever seen. Beautifully rendered. Not a second wasted on pacing. Stellar voice cast, led by an absolutely INCOMPARABLE Lupita Nyong'o. Heartfelt and resonant writing. 100000/10, would show to anyone without hesitation.
You'd think a movie with Toshirō Mifune, Sonny Chiba, James Earl Jones, and Mako would be cool. You'd be wrong.
This movie has blackface within the first five minutes, really weird anti-Japanese racism throughout the rest of the movie, horrible pacing, and countless actors who are so, so much better than this.
Maybe you could make a good drinking game out of it, or do some MST3K riffing, but in general? Not worth it. Just... not.
