Cruising 1980
This is my third time, and I just love seeing how well crafted this film is. Friedkin's background in documentaries really helps sell the atmosphere and the situation Al Pacino's character finds himself in. I know the two didn't get along very well and Friedkin originally wanted Richard Gere, but I think Pacino's restrained performance works incredibly well and heightens the tension. Brave experimentation and an incredible film!

Tchaikovsky's Wife 2022
BS, made-for-Cannes film that pretends to be high art.
I couldn’t believe how bad the execution was. They had this perfectly simple story about a woman marrying a gay man; it should have been very easy for the director to make the audience care, but he chose to go with commercial storytelling and leave us with nothing but terror.
Btw, the fact that the gay man in the story is Tchaikovsky doesn’t add anything to the movie. If it were someone else, the movie would have lost all of its marketing value, and no one would have seen it.
