Another Marvel movie that feels like it misses the mark. Lots of good acting. The super smart villain is one of my least favorite because writers often cant do them justice, and this movie shows this perfectly. They never fight the villain, they fight the symptoms of his plan, and the only reason they catch him is because he turned himself in for no reason (except to probably set up something in a later movie). Instead of letting anime do its thing, someone told them to stick as close to the Peter Jackson movies as possible, leaving me feeling though out the movie, "why is this an anime?" The singular color pallet began to bore, and made the movie feel like someone just through some anime overtop of what we already had. The story could have been a good one, but characters motivations always seem paper thin, just there to move to the plot points…
The foulmouthed love letter to superheroes returns is spectacular fashion. It gave me everything I wanted and more, great acting all around and FULL of wonderful surprises. Its just fun, and its what i wanted and needed.
Its too bad this came out hot on the heels of Across the Spiderverse and Guardians 3. Certainly the best DC movie but some of the CG work looked rough. It was great to see the cameos and I still had fun with it, but cant say it blew me away. Now im just excited to see what James Gunn can do with DC.
