For the first two thirds this was a well shot, fairly original feature with virtually unlimited potential. Then a series of bad choices lead it up to an unsatisfying, clumsy resolution. It baffles me why such a good idea would ever be hinged on such utter stupidity of the main character purely for the sake of cheap shock value, when there were countless different ways this could have progressed to achieve the same effect without resorting to turning the whole thing into a farce.

Interesting conceptually but lacking practically, intriguing in some scenes and somewhat incoherent in others. Too much style over substance with unique bits peppered throughout the runtime. A truly mixed bag.

I've been a dedicated fan of the Predator franchise ever since I saw the original McTiernan's piece. Of course it's common knowledge for anyone observant vast majority of reboots screw over good memories of the source material and extort faithful nostalgic fans, but despite my better judgement I was optimistic for my favorite sci-fi villain's comeback, hopeful, even.
Whelp, that was a damn mistake.
Once the credits started rolling and everyone slowly started leaving the room, I just sat there…

Serebrennikov usually bases his art films on societal issues and abstract allusions to modern developments around them, but in this one it's as if he initially established a few interesting points before completely abandoning them. Cinematography is spot on, and the soundtrack is mostly fitting, but plot-wise - there's a promising beginning, questionable middle, and a disappointing end. Shame because I'm convinced that if characters were developed properly and had more tie-ins with one another, this could really be something special. As is, it's an interesting idea with a wonky execution.
