the multiple robert pattinsons are always a yes

the overarching feeling of me watching this is yes this just like my situation of living and working in a hellhole but this was more fun than i thought. and wow i never knew how great robert was as an actor!!

unlike any film i've watched.. and while on the surface it's a bit plain in most places i think there are thoughts that linger about every single aspect of this film. there's the complex problem of being perceived/portrayed, identity, being presented, connection, dignity (etc) of ani, vanya, and the curiously interesting yet quietly protective igor. it's definitely something to unpack especially seeing the imbalance of the relationship - because we're all grown ups here, right?

p.s. i do appreciate it as an independent film!!

my favourite detail is when m buys fish the second time from amah's usual stall after buying the wrong one. after buying the right one, amah said she already ate the other one. the next day, m is wearing a shirt with a fish skeleton on it.

glad to know i've lived by the unspoken rule of not picking up the phone if you don't know the caller id!
