Poor Things was sex-charged acid trip rollercoaster. I felt like I was watching a compilation of Willy Wonka’s secret NSFW Reddit search history—it was an absolute blast from beginning to end.

I couldn’t tell who’s decisions were worse, the characters in the movie (whom almost always chose the route to their ultimate demise), or the screenplay writers that thought it’d be a good idea to remove any dialogue or character development that would make the audience feel the stakes were as high as they should have been.

The fight scenes were like a booster-shot, quick and painless.

This movie contains several tropes regarding characters’ idiocy in making decisions in high-stress environments, but, who’s to say I wouldn’t act the same in those circumstances. I give this movie 3/5 stars because I think there were glimpses of a great film at times, but I wanted far more—and despite the terrible ending with an annoying child character, it did leave me with a long lasting fear of “what if?”.

Far better than 1993’s ‘Alive’, this movie evokes a feeling of hopelessness at a level few other films can compete with. Despite its premise being a well-known story, there were still a few surprises inside.
