When the Lights Went Out 2012
my parents were watching this and I actually got kind of invested in it. as someone from Yorkshire I love to see proper yorkshire accents shown in films. the plot was kind of interesting? and the adult acting wasn't bad. the CGI is criminally bad for a 2012 movie though, I don't care if it's set in the '70s, the final "ghost battle"…

Back to Black 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
a film that attempts to criticise the paparazzi whilst simultaneously doing exactly as the paparazzi do: tragedising the life of someone the director knows nowhere near enough about. the plot jumps sporadically and lazily, literally one scene is of Amy doing her first performance and three scenes later she casually mentions she won a whole music award with no explanation of her journey to success. this film completely reduces amy to her alcoholism, sexuality and addiction, and also made her…

Thirteen 2003
i appreciate that this film is a commentary on social pressures put on children at school to grow up too early. it's about a girl's spiral into depression and insecurity after meeting a manipulative popular girl, and the acting is very impressive as well as the costume design. personally, i'm not a huge fan of this movie because it feels like i'm watching a PSA rather than an actual film. it really focuses on the message of the film above…
