Kind of like a poorly arranged burrito, where every bite seems to be nothing but rice and tortilla. You're just waiting for the cheese and meat you know you like, and when you do get a good bite, it's good! Too much mark ruffalo rice and humans being mean to cgi animals tortilla to really savor the odd physical comedy gag or tenderly macabre interpersonal dynamic. Wish this was more of a disturbing/evocative/touching romance set in this farcical Nausicaa/Starship Troopers…

The Brutalist 2024
Call me Naomi Watts cause I've been tortured by Brady Corbet.
First third or so had some stuff to like; there's a scene of Brody riding around on his bike that has some nice sequencing and visual rhymes which I found neat. After that it just goes further and further downhill as Corbet repeatedly reminds us what a *serious* filmmaker he is. Any attempt to read this as a tradecraft-as-filmmaking allegory is honestly put to shame by the existence of Speed Racer (2008).
