I never expected a movie about the Catholic Church’s ancient peculiar rituals to be so much fun. This was a strangely fun and exhilarating watch. Tremendous acting from all these GOATs. Isabella Rossellini was sneaky great.

Aftersun 2022
Man, this one leveled me. I read all the acclaim from trusted critics when it came out but missed it. I finally got around to it — fittingly, just before and after a trip. I was not ready for the way it made me feel. It was gorgeously shot and nervously edited. It said so much without having to say anything. It just was. I watched, couldn’t stop thinking about it, and watched again 2 days later. It made me feel different after watching. It is rare a movie can do that but the great ones can.

Wow. Mikey Madison is a star. Sean Baker is doing even more in Anora with a seemingly bigger budget. He keeps getting better especially with a bigger canvas. With Anora, Baker does what he does best - tells an achingly beautiful story of a social outcast and their twisted world. When he makes a movie I will be buying a ticket every time.
