Company: A Musical Comedy 2008
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Before Auggie rips me to shreds: review is for this filmed version, not this revival generally, and definitely not the musical in general. I love Company. Company makes me cry.
I think the cinematography was generally good, though the dissolves were overused. Also agree with another review here that there should’ve been more wide shots. So the diminished rating is related to that, as well as a few direction things.
I feel like this version was a bit too serious…

The Island of Dr. Moreau 1996
Not a good movie—poorly edited, poorly acted, and generally poorly scripted. Yet also a compelling allegory for the questions which arise in a Nietzschean, post-Christian world: what is law when its foundation is flawed? what is law when God is dead? what is it, even, to be lawful when the law becomes problematic? I suspect, though, that these questions came out of H.G. Wells’ original story rather than the film itself.

But I'm a Cheerleader 1999
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Watched this with my brother. Cried again during the cheer scene. He said he would give it four stars because he’s miffed that RuPaul’s character and Rock don’t officially end up together.
