This movie was made primarily for the purpose of the studio maintaining rights to Lord of the Rings IP and in some ways it definitely shows.
Cons:
• I will admit I'm not super familiar with the story as written by Tolkien — I need to fix that — but there were a lot of "this thing (character, creature, place, music) was in the LotR movies" moments.

This one has even stronger 80s fantasy elements than the first one. There's a castle on Endor! A sorceress with a magic ring that lets her turn into a raven! (No, not a star wars raven, just a regular one from Earth. Also there are regular Earth horses.)
Wilford Brimley is definitely an old Jedi in hiding, though. And the sorceress' crystal ring is a kyber crystal. Headcanon'd.
Oh and wicket speaks broken common (English). Mostly because it's a kids movie, so I can accept that. But it's a bit dark for a kids movie.
