It's a really good cautionary tale about exploiting animals for entertainment. There are just some creatures we shouldn't mess with. It uses the horror genre to convey this message, and it's very effective in scaring the audience. Even when it doesn't focus on the alien, the movie has some frightening moments. Heck, when it starts with the aftermath of a Chimpanzee attack on a sitcom set, you know this movie's not monkeying around.
