Zany and inconsistent. Clearly has a ton of respect for Daffy and Porky and is often very funny, but the onslaught of jokes makes it wear a little think over a feature length presentation.
Leaving behind his typical sci fi leanings, this is Yeon Sang-ho's take on a more "traditional" Korean genre. And it's pretty damn good, certainly better than his recent movies. This doesn't invigorate the mystery thriller in the same way that Train to Busan did for the zombie apocalypse, but it is tense and philosophically complex. The characters are morally fascinating, as all three use signs and trauma to drive their actions. Ultimately, it is a little too "on the nose" at times and the plotting isn't as tight as it should be. Still, it is another strong example of why Korean genre cinema is so entertaining.
The whole movie feels like an exposition dump because of the unnecessary narration. And we never get a sense of the friendship between the two characters, so there is no emotional connection. Worst of all, it is boring. There are a few individual scenes which are noteworthy (the Mormon conversation is particularly funny), but it never adds up to anything because of the obtuse structure and the inert direction.
