This movie has an extremely unique identity. It is a sci-fi, comedy and satire, but none of these pieces of its identity are fully fleshed out or masterfully executed. Looking at Bong Joon-Ho’s track record I expect masterful execution, but this one missed the mark a bit.
I found the social commentary to be extremely pertinent and poignant, but too “in your face” compared to his other work. It started to become a bit of a drag.

I didn’t watch the trailer so I had no expectations going in, but it was such a stupid movie. And I say stupid because it was genuinely dumb, but not all in a bad way. The way that people died was so stupid but funny, the twist was stupid but actually pretty interesting. So I guess stupid isn’t all bad. Probably won’t rewatch.
