My oh my, this was so empty.

Bong Joon Ho disappoints again in this weird and awkward sci-fi action parody. Unnecessarily silly, non-consequential, bloodless in its topics. The premise is promising with political, ethical and economical questions but tackles nothing. It just makes fun of contemporary US politics.

An artistic tale about non-anthropomorphic animals trying to survive and learn how to work together. Without any dialogue we witness a compelling adventure with a touching message.

The opening scene is magnificent, thrilling and haunting but then loses some of its grip. Score is a banger and some ideas work well. The action is bigger and the horror more frightening.

Somehow cool sequel with an interesting ending.

Recent A24 movies (with the exception of "Civil War") suffer from the same patterns: great premise, promising first half followed by either stereotypical or nonsensical twists and turns. And to conceal these shortcomings, they implement metaphors, fancy camera shots or unusual design elements.

The first half of "Heretic" is a thrilling and unsettling intimate play about religion and how it is challenged by history, analogies and philosophical questions. As the movie literally goes deeper, it loses much of its grip…
