  I love that this doesn’t just spotlight contemporary issues but reminds you of how easy it is to become mindless to the absurdity of everything. Less witty than it is mesmerising in its humour. And I love how chaos, community and music triumphs in the end: one of the most satisfying and uplifting releases of tension I’ve ever experienced in film.

  The Perfume of the Lady in Black 1974

  A slow-burn, Freudian Giallo that reveals its story through symbols and reactions to symbols. Amazing, colourful cinematography (yay!) and just such a precise style in general. More in line with Footprints on the Moon, The Spider’s Stratagem and The House with the Laughing Windows in terms of storyline and tone but the cinematography is almost Argento-level good.

  The perfect amount of trash and craft. All sports should be filmed like this, have a back story and some strange Freudian aspect.
