The second act of Liar Liar features a maestro at the peak of his powers. What's wrapped around either side of this inspired spell is less remarkable, but for a good 45 minutes, Carrey and the concept put on an electric ballet of physical comedy. A solid 90s' favourite [B].

In the Lost Lands 2025
Inexplicably plotted fantasy pablum, with zero intention or craft in the character beats. Anderson has always possessed a solid B-movie eye, and Lost Lands honours that with some solid compositions and art direction, but the other mechanics? Narrative transitons? World-building? Pan's Labyrinth 2006
Guillermo Del Toro's stance as a film-maker of immense storytelling prowess and visual creativity went mainstream with the release of this foreign gem in 2006. Set against the backdrop of the Spanish Civil War, "Pan's Labyrinth" subscribes to fairy-tale archetypes cleverly, and delicately presents a little princess in need of escape from the evils of the world around her. Phenomenal creature design, cinematography and a screenplay that works as beguiling ethereal fantasy entertainment and an incisive commentary on the horrors of war. Sensational. If you haven't yet seen it, I urge you to rectify this gaping chasm in your viewing history.
