Kingdom of Heaven 2005
Between this and Gladiator Ridley Scott makes a compelling contender for the most damage done to sway public knowledge on historical events through the media of film.
Balian is robbed of his true depth of character and swapped with a sham of a wholly unrealistic cuck of a protagonist with an oh so ever brave anti-religious stance pushed with speeches that are void of any thought or meaning.

La Haine 1995
The beautiful dance that La Haine's script, cinematography and acting partake in give an authentic and raw experience like nothing else has ever accomplished for myself.
The script intertwined with the acting give you an impression you're following friends throughout their genuine day, often being shaken from the reverie the viewing experience creates as to remind yourself you're watching a movie.

Magnolia 1999
One of those movies whose entire storyline is that there is no storyline. In its stead are the characters, who themselves (and specifically here, their past transgressions and subsequent momentary reckoning) are the story. The whole "all of these characters are connected somehow through some event" is just so utterly unimpressive and does not hold up despite showing immense promise in the movie's beginning sequence. The poorly managed 3 hour runtime does little to help. At moments it feels pointlessly time consuming but it was still an enjoyable watch for the most part.
ngl the freemason symbolism goes hard too.
